Star Trek Fleet Command, the sci fi strategy game that everyone loves to hate, has just received a brand new update that introduces a ton of new content to the game.
This is the classic game of tactical Starship combat set in the Star Trek universe (the original TV show), though you will never see 'Star Trek' anywhere in the game (licensing limitation). Players command one or more ships from the Federation, Klingon, Gorn, Romulan, or Kzinti fleets, sporting all of the expected Star Trek weaponry like. In 1985, Cygnus publishes Star Fleet I: The War Begins! Also published on Mac, Commodore 64, Amiga, Atari 8-bit and Atari ST, this strategy game is abandonware and is set in a sci-fi / futuristic, turn-based and space flight. This will download and install any available updates. Once that’s done, try launching Star Wars: Squadrons again. It allows fast-paced multiplayer combat between vessels of various factions in the Star Fleet Universe, such as the Federation, the Klingon and Romulan Empires, the Gorn Confederation, Kzinti Hegemony, Tholian Holdfast and Orion Pirates. The game is based on the races.
There are new star systems, Klingon Separatist missions, new ship upgrades… so much to dig into! And, as ever, it’s all very poorly explained inside the actual game.
But that’s where we come in. We’ve dug into the new update to try and break down exactly what you’re getting, and how to get the most out of it.

Star Trek Fleet Command: New Star Systems
There are seven new star systems available in Star Trek Fleet Command, and they’re located as follows:
Neutral Space:
- Coridan (16) – Dilithium
Federation Space:
- Ajilon (25) – House Antaak Interceptors
- Angosia (25) – 3 Star Gas Mines
Klingon Space:
- Maranga (25) – 3 Star Crystal Mines
- Narendra (25) – Klingon Explorers
Romulan Space:
- Zova Rhen (25) – 3 Star Ore
- Qualor (25) – Romulan Explorers
New Missions:
There are 19 new missions available in Star Trek Fleet Command, which focus on the Klingon House Antaak’s attack on Federation Space.
Your job is to fight them off while the Klingon Empire tries to calm them and the Romulan Star Empire tries to use the war to its own advantage.
It’s an interesting new piece of lore for Star Trek lovers.
Faction Ship Upgrades:
All 3 Star faction ships (not including Mayflower, D3, and Legionary) have received upgrades to make them more attractive to players at their respective level.

Miscellaneous Updates:
Now we’ll round up all of the other smaller, if no less exciting, upgrades that were introduced to the game.
Economy Changes:
All resource generators after level 11 have been given an increase in storage capacities. This won’t affect how many resources are produced, but it will lead to you generally having more resources over time.
Resource Vaults:
Resource protection for Pastel, Tritanium, and Dilithium has received a sizeable boost in protection at levels 23, 26, and 27 respectively.
Ship Hangar:
Every player is now able to store up to five ships in the hanger. This is good news for those that always felt like they didn’t have enough ships at their disposal – I.E.: everyone.
Own a piece of history! First published in 1977, the Star Fleet Battle Manual (by Lou Zocchi and Michael Scott Kurtick) was one of the first (if not the first) widely published Star Trek games. (Lou Zocchi created it in order to sell the plastic miniatures of the Franz Joseph ships he had bought a license to produce.) Fans of the TV show could, for the first time, actually experience the drama, excitement, and danger of combat between the Federation and Klingon Empire. (The game also includes one Tholian ship and one Romulan ship.) This is the 1993 edition, which was updated and expanded, and includes both tabletop and hex-based systems. Everything on television is here: phasers, photons, disruptors, plasma torpedoes, cloaking devices, and webs.
While this game is not (as some have theorized) a prototype for Star Fleet Battles, it did make the publication of SFB possible (because Lou Zocchi generously introduced us to the people who gave us our first license).
This is a very different game than SFB or FC or Starmada or A Call to Arms, with totally different rules and concepts. Even so, it's a worthy game in its own right, and a true historical treasure for Star Fleet Universe players.

Star Fleet Battle Manual, Stock #Z01, $11.00
Another game from Lou Zocchi, this 1973 classic uses (more or less) the same game system as his Star Fleet Battle Manual. (In fact, the first edition of the Star Fleet Battle Manual was a four-page supplement to Alien Space!) Including alien empires that sprang from his own creativity, these exotic starships carry such weapons as the Blazer, Nytron Lance, Tentical Beam, Magma Beam, Proton Torpedo, Javelin Torpedo, and the infamous Gapper Zapper! The game was intended for play with miniatures, and needed only eight pages of rules, eight ship damage charts, and a couple of pages of weapons templates. This 1979 reprint also includes a true gem of history: a dozen catalog pages of long-forgotten games once available from small publishers (including the first games from Task Force!).
Alien Space Battle Manual, Stock #Z02, $8.00.
We are currently out of stock but we have both on order.
